"the bent given by education will determine all that follows" Socrates....
My education journey started in Harris Memorial College... i was all set to be trained to become a deaconess. My ideal dream is to be a well admired deaconess who can play the piano, conduct a choir, teach children and a multi tasker, college life in harris was different. living in the dormitory with different kinds of characters made me really homesick. what you see in the dormitory are the ones you see in the classroom. but i had a great time! things changed when the student council took action of our living condition ( we had no water)...to make the story short, i decided not to continue in harris for the meantime, and ponder upon the plans of God for me, i was 16 years old at that time. i was not denied education in Harris (according to a bitter insecure individual, "nakick out" daw ako, ha ha ha), nor was i terminated, i just decided to think deeply about the plans of God for me...and so i was temporarily deployed to be a volunteer worker in a church, i was a teacher aid and a student deaconess...i had a great and challenging experience with them! i was only sixteen and fresh out of a break up. i left acutally we left harris (most of the students, decided to leave harris to give attention to the most important need - Water) in the second semeste of the school year...i then worked and was given P500 monthly as a student deacones in a nearby town. summer was almost over and i was in limbo...i don't know what i would make up for my education since i would like to study and still would like to be a deaconess! i then proceeded to consult my home church pastor, si pastor homer, i had a heart to heart talk with him, and told him what i was feeling and thinking...he then suggested that i go to UTS and enroll in their BRE program...
what? you want me to be a pastor? i still would like to be a deaconess...sabi nya...pwede naman e..Ms. Chita Framo also said that the Deaconess constitution recognizes a graduate to be a deaconess provided that the institution is recognized by the CODS.
and so my UTS journey started......
I had gone to UTS before, but as a tourist who would like to see what UTS looks like...the campus is breathtaking...i love all the greens i see around, the grass, the old mango, narra, mahogany and other trees, the dormitories for men and women and the faculty housing...the second time i went there, i was with my luggage already...i went down from a minibus and started to walk the road going to the campus...i was having menstrual cramps at that time, carrying along my luggage with me...when a nice looking boy came to help me...i felt so relieved and thought "ganito ba ang mga taga UTS?"

i discovered later that some students from harris are also in UTS, like ate jane(deceased), janice rufino, ate connie...later ate joann and ciony arrived to inquire and enrolled after several back and forth trips...i first enrolled in PCU taking several units before i can be qualified to take the UTS's Bachelor in Religious Education Program. i am overwhelmed with a life that have rules but do not impose it too much on you. you can stay as long as you want outside of the dormitory but the dormitory closes at 10 pm so when you are still out at that time, then find a place where you can sleep.
finally...on my second year of stay in the campus, i enrolled in the BRE program. my classmates were from all over the philippines and even from abroad particularly from Asia.
i became friends with Sharon Quidasol...we became really close but I refused her to be my roommate..I don't like to grow tired seeing her in the classroom, and in my room, at least, we were apart when we go to sleep so that you feel excited to look forward to see her in the classroom the following day... sharon and i had fun and we laugh a lot when we are together... i just love the chemistry and fun that we make...we love to eat, we love to go around, we also had the habit of going to my room, we lock my door, put off the light, put on my casette player and we dance until we drop, ha ha ha sometimes, we put on make up and magpapicture...sometimes we go to bayan and eat whatever, food adventure daw... we go to ate rachel's house (faculty) in the campus and go directly to her bathroom to poopoo.

i love to listen to debates and discussions in the classroom, although sometimes i feel that the discussion seems to be far already from what the bible is saying...we were so much fed with knowledge about feminism... from my german american theologian professor renate rose.

i was a member of the UTS choir, we had regular rehearsals, we had our concert as well...in my second year as a full fledged UTS student, and a member of the UTS choir, (we have to audition to qualify) homar and some good looking students were added...our regular rehearsals were more fun having them around.

my piano lesson with mam rachel visaya was stressful, but i managed to learn to really play the piano, she makes me more tensed whenever she brings out the metronome because i admit i have difficulty with the music beat. i usually come to my piano lesson well dressed and my hair is neatly tied... after lesson i usually come out with my hair gone wrong... ha ha ha

my voice class is at 6 am...really...we come in class under mrs. ranieses, in pajamas, we go directly to the music room and have our vocalization...

UTS library is open until 9 pm during weekdays, sometimes when we have nothing to do, we go there to hang out with some people who do not like to do their requirements...at other times, we go beside the UTS library duirng afternoons, behind the pre school building to pick some mahogany seeds that we play with, we toss each seed in the air and we watch as it swirls around.

during christmas season, before christmas break, the banaba trees in the oval were surrounded and lit with christmas lights, we go under the tree, spread a mat and watch the stars. weather during that time was really cold.
the picture shows Guansing memorial, that is where lovers and friends gather together at night,

the location is very cozy and private, located in the middle of the campus, you can see the shrine as you approach the campus coming from the highway. i usually was there before with some dates. sometimes, i sit there with sharon and watch people coming back from their appointments or with some other friends who are their in campus during sundays.

i love mondays in UTS because it is where students come back and the campus is filled with people, from the the dormitories to the library to the classrooms, and the salakot.

UTS is where i learned to be independent, to be more mature in dealing with circumstances and events in my life, i learned to be more analytical and less impulsive...i had so much memories which i treasure from living a UTS life and learning the UTS way.

i had bad times as well, broken times in my life that happened in UTS, but you know i appreciated the good memories and i had a lot of it because i knew what bad times were.

i met homar my husband in UTS, i first saw him in a freshmen acquiantance and welcome night...he was in a black jacket, wearing a choker but it looked good on him..i didn't know that i was so attractive that he went so head over heels towards me.. ha ha ha

God led me to UTS to finish what he started in my Heart...to become his servant a deaconess...nothing wasted, i am now here helping students as a guidance counselor here in harris.
